Mayhem Mode, explained

What happens when a creator switches it on, where the fees go, and why some holders might not be able to sell.

Short answer

Mayhem Mode is an opt-in setting chosen when a pump.fun coin is created: pump.fun's AI trading agent mints 1,000,000,000 extra tokens (2B total) and buys and sells the coin at random for its first 24 hours, then burns whatever it didn't sell. Per pump.fun's docs (last updated 12 November 2025), protocol fees from Mayhem coins go to a separate insurance fund and aren't shown on its revenue dashboard, and if the agent ends up a net seller some holders may not be able to sell back into the curve.

Mayhem Mode is an experiment pump.fun added in November 2025. A creator who switches it on when launching a coin hands the coin’s first day to an autonomous AI trading agent that pump.fun runs. The idea, in pump.fun’s words, is to inject “volume and price variance into early-stage coins” so that small projects get noticed.

This page is independent and unofficial, based on pump.fun’s Mayhem Mode docs (last updated 12 November 2025, read through an Internet Archive copy of 19 October 2026).

How it works

  • Opt-in at creation only. It can be enabled when the coin is created and never afterwards. The agent never trades coins that didn’t enable it.
  • Extra supply. The agent mints 1,000,000,000 additional tokens, making 2,000,000,000 in total.
  • Random trading for 24 hours. The agent buys and sells “with equal probabilities in a random walk” during the coin’s first 24 hours. It isn’t guaranteed to trade every Mayhem coin.
  • Burn at the end. After 24 hours it burns every token it didn’t sell. Mayhem tokens sent to the agent during the first 24 hours are burned too; anything else sent to it stays in its wallet forever.
  • Same start. pump.fun says the starting market value and initial liquidity are exactly the same as a normal coin’s. See the bonding curve.
  • Limits. The agent has hard caps on how much it can buy, how much it can sell (in SOL) and how many trades it can place in a given time.

At launch the docs said the switch wasn’t yet in pump.fun’s web or mobile app; Mayhem was “permissionless” on mainnet for anyone creating coins through the program directly. pump.fun now has a Mayhem board in its main navigation.

Where the money goes

  • The agent is funded with SOL from pump.fun’s own balance sheet, and pays no pump.fun protocol fees.
  • Any profit the agent makes goes to an insurance fund for its long-term solvency.
  • All protocol fees from Mayhem coins go to separate fee wallets, also used as the insurance fund. They are not tracked on fees.pump.fun, pump.fun’s revenue dashboard, so they’re missing from the revenue and buyback figures it publishes there. See the PUMP token.
  • DefiLlama counts Mayhem-mode fees inside its pump.fun row, without a separate split.

pump.fun says the agent’s wallets are listed at the bottom of its docs page. The Mayhem program is MAyhSmzX…MD4e.

The risk pump.fun spells out

pump.fun’s own docs carry this warning: if the agent introduces net supply (sells more than it buys) and all other holders then try to sell, “there may be some holders who cannot sell their tokens into the bonding curve due to the lack of liquidity”. In plain terms, the agent’s extra tokens can take SOL out of the curve that ordinary holders were counting on. If the coin graduates to PumpSwap, pump.fun says holders can always sell there.

Other things to keep in mind:

  • Volume isn’t demand. A Mayhem coin’s first-day chart and volume partly reflect the agent, not real buyers.
  • No outcome data. pump.fun hasn’t published how often the agent net-sells, or how Mayhem coins fare against normal ones.
  • It’s labelled beta. The docs call it “an early beta build which requires testing and experimenting in production”, which may change before a v1.

Questions people ask

Can a creator turn on Mayhem Mode after launch?

No. pump.fun's docs say Mayhem Mode can only be enabled during coin creation, never afterwards, and the agent never trades coins that didn't enable it.

How do I know if a coin uses Mayhem Mode?

The coin's page in the pump.fun web app, the mobile app or Terminal shows it, per pump.fun's docs. Data feeds such as PumpPortal also flag it per coin.

Does Mayhem Mode make a coin more likely to go up?

Nobody can say that. The agent buys and sells with equal probability in a random walk; pump.fun hopes the extra activity draws attention, but it publishes no outcome data, and if the agent net-sells it adds supply.
